There is a category of supplement that does not announce itself. You take it, and nothing happens on Tuesday. Then a month in you notice the floor has come up under you, steadier energy, a better baseline, an edge that stopped dulling. These are tonics, and they reward the same patience the practice does. Here is the shelf I actually run.
Shilajit, the mineral floor
A traditional Himalayan preparation, rich in fulvic acid and trace minerals, used to support mitochondrial energy and stamina. It is the one I would not skip. It is also the one where sourcing matters most, because this category is full of contaminated product. Tested extract or resin only.
Shilajit
BioTech Labs
- Form
- Gold-grade Himalayan 20:1 extract, capsules
- Dose
- 2 capsules daily, preferably with food
A traditional preparation rich in fulvic acid and trace minerals, used to support mitochondrial energy, stamina, and hormonal balance. Steady, not a stimulant.
This category is full of contaminated product. Buy tested resin or extract only. Heavy metal testing is not negotiable here.
Maca and pine pollen, the roots and the tree
Black maca is an Andean root used for energy, mood, and libido, cumulative and easy to hide in a shake. Pine pollen is the tree's answer to the same question, a traditional male tonic taken as a fast-absorbing tincture. I cycle them the way I cycle everything in this family: a few weeks on, a week off, so the body never fully adapts to the signal.
Black Maca Root
Anthony's Goods
- Form
- USDA organic black maca powder, 1 lb
- Dose
- 1 to 3 teaspoons daily, in a shake, coffee, or oatmeal
Andean root used traditionally to support energy, mood, and libido. Black maca is the darkest, most sought-after variety. It carries a malted, butterscotch note that hides well in a shake.
Give it a month. It's cumulative, not immediate.
Pine Pollen Tincture
Wild & Organic
- Form
- Liquid tincture in vegetable glycerin, alcohol-free, 4 fl oz
- Dose
- One full dropper (about 0.7 mL) in 2 oz water or juice, up to three times daily
Pine pollen is a traditional tonic used to support vitality and hormonal balance in men. A glycerin tincture absorbs fast and skips the alcohol burn.
Cycle it like the other tonics. A few weeks on, a week off.
Black seed oil, the old remedy
Nigella sativa is one of the oldest remedies on record, and the modern version standardizes it to thymoquinone, the compound that does the work. It supports a healthy immune and inflammatory response and a steadier cortisol curve. Standardization is the whole game here, so a number on the label is the difference between medicine and expensive salad oil.
ThymoQuin Black Seed Oil
Dr. Murray
- Form
- Softgel, 500 mg cold-pressed black seed oil standardized to 3% thymoquinone
- Dose
- 1 softgel, once or twice daily with food
Black seed (Nigella sativa) is one of the oldest remedies on record. Standardized to thymoquinone, the active compound, it supports a healthy immune and inflammatory response, cardiometabolic health, and a steady cortisol curve.
Standardization is the whole game. A generic black seed oil with no thymoquinone number is just expensive salad oil.
Give the whole shelf a month before you judge any of it. Tonics are compound interest, not a stimulant.
The only rule that matters here
If you would rather run these as a single set, I keep them together as a stack.
- Run all four for at least four weeks before deciding anything
- Cycle the roots and the pollen, a few weeks on and a week off
- Buy shilajit tested, and black seed oil standardized, or do not buy them at all
